#8 - Sew cool!

Hi, hey, hello! Welcome or welcome back! To tell you a story, when I was little my mom had a sewing kit. Fascinated by it I snooped around the kit and found many materials I had never seen. Unsure how to use any of them I asked my mom how they worked. She showed me the ropes of sewing and what she knew. From there I fell in love and took on small sewing projects. In high school, I even took a class that had a short sewing unit and I made a small pillow. I shall now pass the knowledge I have gained over the years on to you, hope you enjoy it!

Sewing pins are used to hold your fabrics together and can range from long pins to short pins. Sewing pins are made of a metal needle with a plastic top or a flat metal top and can be bought in bulk at low prices usually.

Pin cushions are used to hold pins. If you are sewing fabric together it may be convenient to carry them with you in this cushion, as opposed to in your hand. For even more convenience some pin cushions have straps, ribbons, elastics, or strings to secure onto your wrist while you use it. Pin cushions are filled with a soft but pierceable material like steel wool or finely crushed nuts, they come in many designs and colors.

Seam rippers are used for tearing open stitches made previously. Whether you made a mistake sewing or you need to dismantle some fabric to fix/alter it, the seam ripper tears through it with relative ease. Seam rippers can get dull though and break so be sure to have backups, these are also usually inexpensive.

Hand-sewing needles are used for hand sewing as opposed to machine-sewing needles which are used in sewing machines. Hand-sewing needles are usually sold in bulk and come in many different sizes in terms of length or eye. Both contain similar anatomy but hand-sewing needles are simpler than machine-sewing needles, which contain a few more parts. The differences can be seen below.

Thread is used for the fixing/attachment of textiles and fabrics together. Thread comes in a variety of colors and materials from polyester to cotton. Thread is usually wrapped upon a spool and most tend to be relatively cheap. The size of the spool can vary from small like a quarter to large like a computer mouse.

Hopefully, this was informative to you if you did not know these things! Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and have a wonderful day. :] <3
